The six crops every marketplace wants
Shoot once, wide enough, and you will never have to reshoot for a platform again.
Shoot wider than the crop
Every platform crops differently and most of them crop to square somewhere. Compose with your product filling about sixty per cent of the frame, centred, with clean space all around. That margin is what lets one photo survive six different crops.
Etsy listing — 2000 × 2000, square
Etsy displays a 4:5 thumbnail in search but the listing image is square. Shoot square, or shoot 4:5 knowing the top and bottom will go.
Shopify product — 2048 × 2048, square
Shopify pads rather than crops if your aspect is wrong, which leaves white bars. Give it a true square.
Instagram feed — 1080 × 1350, 4:5
The tallest format the feed allows, so it takes up the most screen. Always use it over square for feed posts. The grid thumbnail is still square, so keep the product centred.
Stories and Reels — 1080 × 1920, 9:16
Keep anything important out of the top and bottom fifteen per cent — that is where the interface sits and where stickers go.
Shop banner — 1920 × 1080, 16:9
The one shot that needs deliberate empty space. Put the product on one third and leave the rest clear for words, or you will crop it badly every single time you need a header.
